About Doug
Born in 1972 and introduced to speed with an Indian motorcycle with training wheels for my 2nd Birthday. After Dad got hurt in a sprint car 1977 he went back to his roots of racing go-karts and quickly tried to fudge my age so I could join in. I started racing before the minimum age (7) because of my size and raced everything from 4 cycle to dual 2 cycles on dirt, asphalt , indoor arenas and street courses over the years. We enjoyed quite a bit of success and probably still some of my favorite racing memories were in karts.
In 1990 we went to Savannah to watch the races and the next week I had moved from a kart to an IMCA A mod. I got my 1st feature win the end of that year. In 1992 me and dad built our 1st modified and won the track championship. We built new cars every year and even built a late model for 1995, both cars made the Boone Nationals that year.
In 1996 I got married and had 2 daughters, Kinsey (2001) and Carlee (2005). On our honeymoon we went to Daytona and watched the ARCA race. My 1st wife thought we should give that a try and after a couple years of acquiring parts we made our 1st start at Michigan in 1998. Michigan became my favorite track and I probably ran over a 1000 miles there. In 2001 I was one of the 1st racecars to test at Kansas Speedway. My best ARCA races were on the dirt miles where I started front row 3 times and finished 2nd. We only had local sponsors and a friend at Joe Gibbs Racing showed us how much better the NASCAR truck series paid. In 2001 I started racing in the truck series in a truck J.D. Gibbs had wrecked and we rebuilt in our shop. We raced from Bristol to Daytona over the next couple years. Lack of sponsorship caused us to pull the plug at the end of 2003. There's lots of stories and memories from traveling the country and racing in these series.
I chased the dream and fell short so we concentrated on the family auto body shop and family time and started building a home. I raced a little over the next few years but in 2008 I got the chance to drive an A mod locally. That turned into building a new car for 2009 and back to racing.
In 2010 I got divorced and concentrated on family and raced a limited schedule. In 2011 the car was switched to the new B mod class and over the next several years we racked up over 50 wins in that same car.
In 2015 I married Samantha and we had Jackson in 2018.
In 2020 we decided to try something different and for the 1st time since 1990 I was in a car we didn't build. We purchased a Sniper stock car and won 20 features that 1st season and ended up 2nd in the USRA national points. 6 years into the stock car deal and still learning and having fun.
