Ramey Eyes ASCS Sprint Week Races in Arkansas This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 22, 2021) – Gunner Ramey is eager to climb back into the Terry Doogs Racing No. 21 winged sprint car this weekend during the first two rounds of the ASCS Sprint Week.

The Sedalia, Mo., driver is looking for a bounce-back weekend following a pair of 19th-place finishes last Friday at U.S. 36 Raceway near Osborn, Mo., and Saturday at Knoxville Raceway.

Ramey started 10th in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour feature on Friday at U.S. 36 Raceway. He battled for a top 10 throughout the majority of the race before tangling with another driver attempting to complete a slide job.

“In the feature we hung around 10th and could’ve finished there,” he said. “I got caught up with another driver attempting a slider going into turn three. I had a good run on the bottom and he was running the top when he started to come down the track as I was going up and we got together. It was just one of those deals where we got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

The incident resulted in a DNF for Ramey.

The following night the team invaded Knoxville Raceway. Ramey didn’t have the qualifying effort he had hoped for, laying down the 23rd-fastest overall time.

“We didn’t qualify like we should have,” he said. “I made a few mistakes that put us behind the eight ball early and it’s tough to dig out of a hole at Knoxville Raceway where the competition is so good every week.”

After finishing fifth in his heat race, Ramey lined up 20th to start the feature. He made it as high as 14th in the running order, but ultimately placed 19th.

“It’s tough and a little frustrating, but ultimately, we still made laps and got to learn things to add to our notebook,” he said. “It will be really nice to get back in the car for two races this week.”

Ramey is slated to run Friday at Batesville Motor Speedway in Batesville, Ark., and Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. He was also scheduled to race on Thursday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., but the event was postponed because of weather.

Ramey has raced a micro sprint at I-30 Speedway, but he has yet to turn any laps in his 360ci winged sprint car at any one of the tracks he will run at this week.

“It’s exciting to go to new tracks and figure them out,” he said. “I’d love to have clean, solid and consistent nights and hopefully top 10s in each race.”
