Bowers Wins Third of the Season in IMCA Modifieds, Asher Victorious in E-Mods

OSBORN, Mo. – On a night headlined by the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series at US 36 Raceway, the IMCA Modifieds and E-Modifieds would do their best to try to steal the show.

In the IMCA Modifieds main event, Shayne Bailey jumped to the early lead and would pace the field. Before the first caution of the race on lap seven, Bailey had stretched the gap out comfortably, while Steven Bowers Jr. and Chad Andersen started their journey through the field.

By halfway both Bowers and Andersen had worked their way into the top five. While Andersen momentarily stalled out in the fifth position, Bowers charged up to second and began working different lines trying to find a way around Bailey. As Bowers made his move with five laps to go, the second and final caution of the race flew, keeping Bailey at the point.

On the restart, Bailey earned some breathing room and looked well on his way to Westfall GMC Victory Lane. With two to go though, Bowers found a little more speed on the cushion and worked around Bailey to pick up his third straight IMCA Modified win at US 36. Bailey finished second, with point leader Andersen in third. With the win, Bowers cut Andersen’s point lead to eight markers. Chad Clancy and Clay Hale completed the top five.

The E-Modified feature saw several competitors make big moves through the field. Josh Marshall however, led the opening laps and quickly built a straightaway lead on the rest of the field. As Marshall set sail, Justin Asher, Keith Simmons and Casey Burnett began working patiently through the field.

At the halfway mark, with Marshall way out in front, the caution flew eliminating his large gap. This allowed, Asher, Burnett and Simmons to all make passes on Marshall in the laps after the restart. Asher would take the lead and have to deal with two more restarts before earning his third win of the year. Burnett finished second after starting eighth, with Simmons moving up nine spots to finish third. Shawn Burns and Colton Couch completed the top five.

Up next at US 36 Raceway is the 4th Annual Joe Crist Memorial Stock Car Shootout, now paying $1,562 to the winner. Second will receive $762 and the race is $125 to start. The IMCA Sprint Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, E-Modifieds and Pure Stocks are racing. As part of the show, any IMCA Hobby Stocks wanting to try out the high banks will be allowed to run with the US 36 Raceway Pure Stocks for one night only.
