Sobbing, Harker, Burns take Modified Madness Wins; Drueke victorious in Sprint Cars

OSBORN, Mo. – There were many storylines headed into Modified Madness at US 36 Raceway, such as increased payouts and the Wayne Hicks Memorial Sport Mod Shootout, but the biggest storyline remained with the track.

Throughout the week, thanks to Shaw Excavating and the many people involved, the track at US 36 received a complete makeover to improve track conditions. The storyline at the end of the night no longer was about the track, it was about the racing on it. The track raced multi-grooved and smooth all night long and let the racers go after a chance to reach Westfall GMC Victory Lane.

Modified Madness, presented by St. Joseph Beverage and Miller Lite, was headlined by the IMCA Modifieds and the drivers chasing the $1,066 winner’s check. Jesse Sobbing, from Malvern, Iowa, led the race from start to finish, but it didn’t come without several challenges from several different drivers. Chad Andersen, Chad Clancy and Steven Bowers Jr. all had their go at Sobbing. Bowers charged late and made a couple looks for the lead, but Sobbing was too strong and picked up back-to-back wins at US 36. Bowers finished second, with Clancy in third.

Similar to the Modifieds, the IMCA Sport Mods saw Shawn Harker, out of Nebraska City, Nebraska, lead the entire race. Matt Andrews tried countless times to make a move on Harker, but never could complete the pass. Harker and Andrews battle was one of the best of the night, as Harker picked up the 4th annual Wayne Hicks Memorial Sport Mod Shootout win. Steven Clancy and Derek Hall battled in a similar fashion for third, with Clancy getting the better of Hall. Cole Wayman earned the hard charger award, as he drove from 12th to finish fifth.

Shawn Burns showed immense poise and patience in the E-Modified feature which parked him in victory lane, coming from a 10th place starting position. Burns took his time lining up each pass and once he got out front he drove away from the field. Justin Asher lead the early part of the race, from the seventh starting position before Burns moved past. Colton Couch drove a solid race to finish where he started in the third position.

In the IMCA Sprint Cars, Tyler Drueke swept the night winning both his heat and the feature. Jordan Welch, who made the trek from Indiana, had a good run in his first ever appearance at US 36 Raceway and finished second. Jay Russell rounded out the top three in a feature that never saw the yellow flag fly.

Up next at US 36 Raceway, Friday, May 29, is the third race in the chase for a championship for the weekly competitors. The IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sprint Cars, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, E-Modifieds and Pure Stocks will all be in action.
