Sobbing, Drueke, Baumli, Stallbaumer, Simmons and Ryun Pick Up Opening Night Wins at US 36 Raceway

OSBORN, Mo. – After a long wait for racing to return to the high banks of US 36 Raceway, cars hit the track on Friday, May 8.

However, Thursday rains left the race in question and after many hours of work to roll the track and pits in, officials made the decision to race.

The track raced well early, but started developing character midway through the heat races. By feature time, driver’s had to deal with a rough track that left those best able to adapt out front.

In the IMCA Modifieds, Kelsie Foley, out of Tucson, Arizona, led the first half of the feature. Jesse Sobbing lurked behind as he methodically worked his way through the field. Using the high line, Sobbing worked around Foley, and led the remaining laps to win the opening Modified race of 2020. Chad Andersen charged from a B-Feature and 15th place starting position to finish second, with Foley finishing third.

Tyler Drueke dominated the IMCA Sprint Car feature leading every lap and cruised to Westfall GMC Victory Lane. Stuart Snyder finished second, with Cincinnati, Ohio driver Saben Bibent in the third spot.

JJ Baumli made quick work of the IMCA Stock Car field, jumping to the early lead out of the fourth starting position. Mike Albertson ran second most of the feature, but never could run down Baumli. Mich Ross came from a B-Feature to finish in the third position.

The IMCA Sport Mod race became the Stallbaumer show as both Tim Stallbaumer and Luke Stallbaumer paced the field for much of the race. Luke Stallbaumer led early, before Tim Stallbaumer made the pass for the lead in the back half of the race and drove to the eventual win. Derek Hall drove from the 10th starting position to finish third.

The E-Modifieds saw several different contenders throughout the event. Keith Simmons bested them all though as he took the lead late and picked up the win from a 10th place starting position. Brandon Beam finished second, with Zach Boyd rounding out the podium.

Jason Ryun patiently worked through the Pure Stock field from the sixth starting position to earn a trip to victory lane. The early battle for the lead became a battle for second, as Tyler Starmer would outrun Anthony Persell for a second place finish.

Up next at US 36 Raceway is a visit from the Sprint Series of Nebraska, on Friday, May 15. Non-Wing Sprints, IMCA Stock Cars and Pure Stocks are also racing.
