OSBORN, Mo. – Another season at US 36 Raceway has flown by and six drivers have the opportunity to put their names in the record books, this Friday, Aug. 16.
The early part of the season was marred with rainouts and cancellations. As the season started to reach the end, drivers started to find a rhythm in the weekly schedule and the season long battle is set to conclude this weekend for all six classes, the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sprint Cars, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, Pure Stocks and E-Modifieds.
As championship battles are settled on the track, there is also a lot of fun to be had in the stands. Thanks to the help from Vicki Davis 66 Promotions, it is Hat it Up night at US 36 Raceway. First, it is hats off to the ladies, so for each adult ticket sold, one lady will get in free. There will also be a competition where men can choose to dress like a lady for a chance to win $100, with the top three receiving US 36 hats. For the kids, they can make and bring a funny hat. The first 25 kids that enter will receive a checkered race bear. There will also be a most popular driver vote, and the top ten in that competition will model the kids hats to determine the top three.
On the track, there is one championship battle where neither driver has an advantage over the other. In the IMCA Sprint Cars, Mike Houseman Jr. and Mike Moore are locked at 277 points apiece. Kenny Potter sits only eight points back.
In the IMCA Stock Cars, Blake Peeler holds a comfortable 21-point lead over Connor Masoner. Carson Masoner is 28 points back and Mich Ross sits 30 behind.
The other four championship battles look to have repeat champions as the 2018 title holders currently hold the points lead. The IMCA Modifieds see Chad Clancy leading Clay Hale by 36 points.
Steven Clancy has a 37-point lead over Randy Smith Jr. in the IMCA Sport Mods. Cade Richards is 42 back from Clancy. Chris Wright is 48 back and Josh Munsen is 49 back, so the battle for second in points could see some movement.
Two championships are clinched as Gary Ainsworth and Connor Masoner will earn the E-Modified and Pure Stock championships. Gary Ainsworth repeats as E-Mod champion as Alek Breckenridge, in his first season, sits 53 points back. Connor Masoner earns the outright Pure Stock championship this season after earning a co-championship with CJ Turner last year.
Although the regular season comes to a close this week at US 36, there are several special events remaining. The big one is the inaugural Missouri IMCA Nationals featuring the IMCA Modifieds, Sprint Cars, Stock Cars and Sport Mods on Oct. 9-12. Details are being finalized for the event and will be released soon.
For this Friday, Aug. 16, the pits open at 5 p.m. and the grandstands at 6 p.m. Hot Laps start at 7:30 p.m. and racing starts at 8 p.m. Tickets for the event are $15 for general admission, $12 for senior and military, $5 for children seven to 12 years of age and children six and younger are free.
