Josh Most edges Steven Bowers for $1,500 payday

OSBORN, Mo. – Every class had an increased payout on the line Friday at US 36 Raceway, but the IMCA Modifieds had the most to fight for with a $1,500 check going home with the winner of the Modified Blowout presented by Lent Prints.

Clay Hale and Steven Bowers started the race from the front row for the 25-lap race, with Bowers taking the advantage into the opening corner. While Bowers paced the race early, Josh Most began working his way from an eighth place starting position. Most moved through the field by running alternate lines from the rest of the field.

After seven laps, Most had already moved into third when Chad Andersen brought out the caution with a mechanical failure. On the restart, Most moved into the second position. As Most began to work on Bowers, Chad Clancy moved into the picture for the lead as he moved into third, after starting 11th.

A few laps after the restart, Most and Bowers made contact in turn one. Most let Bowers recollect himself before making another attempt at taking the lead away. After an intense battle, Most took the lead from Bowers. Most opened up a comfortable lead by lap 20 as both Bowers and Most had driven away from the field and entered lap traffic. While those two worked through the traffic, Shayne Bailey and Clancy battled for third. The two would swap positions before Bailey would clear Clancy, after completing the slide job in turn one.

With battles all over the track and only a few laps left, Bowers chased Most down and the two re-engaged in their battle for the lead. Most took a three-car length lead into the white flag lap. Most bobbled in turn one and Bowers closed to his back bumper into turn three. Both took the high line and the two almost made contact. Most stayed high, while Bowers pointed his car to the bottom. The two raced door-to-door to the line with Most earning the win by 0.177 seconds over Bowers.

Bailey won the battle for third, pushing Clancy to fourth. Cory Wray ran a steady race to finish fifth.

JJ Baumli has now cashed in on over $2,200 dollars over the past two weeks as he picked up his second four figure win in a row, winning the $1,000 to win IMCA Stock Car feature.

Pole-sitter Connor Masoner held the lead for the opening laps before Jason Estes took the lead and led the next portion of the race. The first half of the race saw Baumli run the high-side to work into the top three from a ninth place starting position. Aftetr Baumli worked around Masoner, he and Estes would battle for the lead for several laps. Baumli eventually made his way around Estes and then dominated the final restart to pick up the win.

Steve Starmer finished second with Connor Masoner third. Thomas Roberts finished fourth and Billie Hoover moved up ten positions to finish fifth.

The IMCA Sport Mods also had a $1,000 check ready for the winner at the end of the night. Steven Clancy started on the pole and had the dominate car early. While Clancy paced the field, Chase Rudolf, who is third in Northern Sport Mod national points, worked from his seventh place starting position into second. Rudolf would show his nose to Clancy several times, but never could make the move. Clancy got his sixth win of the season and extended his points lead to 37 heading into championship night. Tim Eaton finished third, with Trevor Noonan fourth in his first appearance at US 36. Jeffrey Sears finished out the top five with a fifth-place finish.

The Pure Stocks were the only class to not see a caution and three cars battled for the lead all race long. Front row starters CJ Turner and Connor Masoner, along with Blake Peeler were never separated by more than a few car lengths. Both Masoner and Peeler had multiple chances to move around Turner, but they continually swapped positions, allowing Turner to hang onto the lead. For 15 laps, Turner went mistake free and earned the Pure Stock win and a visit to Westfall GMC Victory Lane. Masoner finished second and Peeler finished third. Conrad Kaufman and Anthony Persell made up the rest of the top five.

The last few weeks, the E-Modified winner had to get their moves done early as green flag laps have been hard to come by. Justin Asher did that and moved from a 12th place starting position into the top five quickly. Using restarts to his advantage he moved into second and took little time moving around early-race leader Gary Ainsworth. Asher did not look back and won his second race of the season. Ainsworth finished second with Justin Mitchell third, Chet Yates fourth and Matt Fordyce fifth, in his first appearance at US 36.

US 36 Raceway will take the next week off and be back in action Aug. 16 for Championship Night. Although champions will be crowned in two weeks, US 36 has several specials in store in September and October and details on those events will come at a later date.
